Hard to say if the virus is till to come. I’m sure it was a great boost for all the security software companies. I had no virus related service calls. Guess all my clients are well protected. Just keep your antivirus up to date and keep the system scanned and then practice safe surfing.

Remember that joke of an excuse to not have your papers done for class. Did someone ever really have a dog eat their homework. It dawned on me yesterday while troubleshooting a dead laptop for an NAU College student-the excuse these days must be “window’s updates ate my homework” or just plain “my computer crashed” and my paper was on there. Just another reason for students to have some sort of backup process in place. Afterall, do you really want to re-download that 14GB of music from itunes again.

Recently I became a reseller for Carbonite Online Data Backup. I’m always urging my clients to use proper data backup procedures and cringe when I find people that don’t back up critical data. Carbonite is like a data insurance policy and all for $50 per year per computer.
A new client contacted me with a dekstop computer that would not boot. Upon further investigation I discovered the hard drive was dead. Even after removing the hard drive from the unit and trying external devices it still was unaccessible. Even my recovery program wouldn’t run on it. Unfortunately, all the documents, photos, music and more was lost forever. There are forensic companies that can recover bits of data from damaged drives but for thousands of dollars. This nightmare could have been stopped by installing carbonite for only $50 per year per computer.
